Definition of FTP

File transfer protocol (FTP) is a protocol whose job is to bridge the exchange of information in a computer. If you download and upload files, all of these activities can be done with the help of FTP. Two important things in FTP are FTP server and FTP client. FTP server is a server that runs software with the function of providing file exchange services that are always ready when there is a request from an FTP client. Meanwhile, what is meant by FTP client is the computer that you use to perform various activities. Your computer as an FTP client must be connected to an FTP server to be able to exchange files and perform activities such as downloading, uploading, renaming, deleting, and so on.

FTP strengths

  • FTP is a protocol that bridges the exchange of information on a computer has many advantages, including:
  • Has an encryption security system on the network that is used, so you don’t have to worry about personal hacking data.
  • FTP has a storage function, where the data sent will not be lost or deleted by computers and other electronic devices.

Weakness of FTP

Besides having advantages, FTP also has disadvantages such as:

  • Very dependent on the existence of an encryption security system. Without an encryption security system, FTP is not safe to use for data and information transfers.
  • The design is not so strong that it can endanger administrators because of the lack of information about the risk factors that will be faced.
  • Mistakes in conveying information often occur so that administrators have difficulty understanding the information received.
